Accommodation

The EUROLANers 2007 can be accommodated at Gaudeamus Centre of International Exchanges (University Residence Hall), situated within 5-10 minutes walking distance from the main University Building and the Faculty of Computer Science, the venue of EUROLAN 2007 Summer School.

The address of Gaudeamus Centre for International Exchanges: 17 Codrescu Street, Iasi; Phone: +40 232 201077

The rooms at Gaudeamus are fully furnished, including sheets, linen and towels. Each room has a private bathroom and a little balcony. On each floor there is a kitchen fully equipped for cooking. Laundry can be done at request.

A map of Iasi, with the major locations is available.

The 800 metres between Gaudeamus and the Al.I. Cuza University are marked on a smaller map.

The prices at Gaudeamus (without breakfast) are:

  • 30 euro: single room (1 in a room)
  • 36 euro: double room (2 in a room; 18 euro per person)

In order for us to reserve a room at Gaudeamus, we will use the same arrival and departure dates as indicated in your registration form. The booking will only be confirmed after your registration is completely settled (i.e.: either we have received your payment as a participant, or you have been awarded one of our grants). The accommodation will be paid directly by yourself on site (please note that Gaudeamus does not accept credit cards).

The participants staying at Gaudeamus will have the possibility to have breakfast and lunch at the Gaudeamus restaurant, at the estimative price of 13 lei per day.

More expensive hotels are also available. Please note that if you decide not to stay at Gaudeamus, we will be more than willing to answer your queries on other options. However, we are not in a position to take care of such reservations ourselves. Thus, you will have to take care of handling your own reservation at the hotel of your choice.

Grants

Like in the other editions of the Eurolan Summer School, the organizers want to encourage participants with less financial possibilities, but good research background, to participate in Eurolan 2007. A limited number of student grants are available, provided by sponsorships the organizers have and will receive.

Grants for participants coming from Eastern and Central Europe are available through the Microsoft Inspire program.

Among the eligibility criteria figure is your motivation and the economical situation of the institution or the country you come from. An accepted paper to the Doctoral Consortium or the ASOS workshop at EUROLAN 2007 will also strongly support your request.

In order to apply for a grant, you should prepare the following documents, which you will be asked to upload when submitting the registration form:

  • a Curriculum Vitae, using this model.
  • a Motivation Letter, where you should, at least, explain why you want to come to EUROLAN 2007, and what you hope to gain from this participation.
  • a letter of recommendation from your supervisor.

If you think you are a potential grantee, please submit your grant application until Friday, June 29. We will post the list of all grantees about one week after the close of grant applications. If you won't be on that list, you can still participate to Eurolan and pay an Early Registration fee until July 15.

Events

EUROLAN 2007 will host two satellite scientific events:

Social events at EUROLAN 2007:

  • Welcome party, offered by the organisers (price included in the registration fee)
  • Farewell party to be held on Thursday or Friday, during the second week; the final place will be announced shortly; estimate price 60 lei.
  • one day excursion to the Northern part of the Romanian province of Moldavia, including the famous monasteries of Bucovina, on Sunday, July 29. The final price will be negotiated according to the number of participants, however as an indicative price we estimate this to be in the region of 90 lei.
  • Guided city tour on Saturday afternoon, July 28. The organisers are trying to offer this tour for free to all participants. However, if this will not be possible, the estimate price is 30 lei.
  • Taste it!.. and rank your opinions, a daily contest where those taking part will cook for everybody a national dish - to be prepared at the school's restaurant (well, with some help from the restaurant personnel). If you intend to take part in this unusual, yet exciting contest, please contact the organisers, or use the Eurolan blog.

If you have reached this point and your sentiments with respect to your participation in EUROLAN 2007 are positive, then go ahead and fill in the Registration Form, available for all activities related to EUROLAN 2007.
